Threlkeld Quarry and Mining Museum showcases the industrial heritage of Lake District slate and granite quarrying. The extensive site features a unique collection of vintage excavators and historic quarry machinery.
Visitors can ride a narrow gauge railway into the old quarry, lasting approximately 25 minutes, whilst learning about local geology and mining history through displays of photographs and rock samples from over fifty quarries. The museum displays the geological contact between Skiddaw slate and granite intrusion.
An indoor area accommodates groups, and the site hosts seasonal attractions including Santa trains in December and an annual steam gala with visiting locomotives.
