A lovely walk up to an isolated tarn and back through the valley. Mosedale is a small village 4 miles off the A66 between Keswick and Penrith. After leaving the A66 you will pass through the village of Mungrisdale and the hamlet of Bowscale before reaching Mosedale.

Turn left out of the car park and keep to the grass verge of the road. Shortly you will come to the hamlet of Bowscale. As the roads bends to the left to leave the hamlet take a right turn onto a bridleway signposted Bowscale Tarn. Go through a gate and continue on the uphill path all the way to the tarn. From the tarn retrace your steps for 200 metres and then turn left over a stream. Just after turn right down a faint grassy steep path down into the valley towards the 'Round House'. You'll certainly see why it has this name. Continue all the way down to a bridge over the river. Cross the bridge and walk past the farm buildings and over a cattle grid. At the end of the farm track turn right down a single track lane all the way back to the car park. In the summer the Quaker Meeting House in Mosedale opens up as a shop selling cakes and crafts all made by local people. Check Mosedale noticeboard for opening dates and times.
